Loneliness and Mental Health Related Quality of Life of the Very Old

In our recent article published in the International Journal of Environmental Research in Public Health (IJERPH, https://www.mdpi.com/1660-4601/17/2/600) together with the Public health Department of Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, 42% of the very old over 80 years in 5 countries has emotional and social loneliness and shows a strong correlation between loneliness and the quality of life of the elderly especially in terms of their mental health. Decision makers in health settings need to plan directly and implement actions that reduce the loneliness of the very old such as dedicated Smart IoT environments at home but also investment in more human to human interaction!
